2022 Trends that are here to stay in 2023

Are you like me and always wondering what trends are here for only a season and what ones are here to stay? I decided to put together a list of my top 4 2022 trends that are here to stay in 2023

Arches-

While straight clean lines will always appeal, we have seen a massive shift to curved lines, including arches everywhere! Arches are an incredible way to add movement and character to a space. They also serve as an optical illusion, and if used correctly, they can draw the eye to make the room appear more spacious. One of my favorite ways we implemented arches is in the bar area of the Unsellable houses S3 E13 home. The arch in this location added so much character and uniqueness to the space.

For your home: I understand ripping out walls and windows might be too big of a project for most of us, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also participate in this trend! I love to stage with arched items like wall hangings and arched buffets and shelving.

Future Nostalgia-

I have also heard of this as upcycling, but future nostalgia goes a little bit deeper. Do you have an old kitchen table from your grandmother you love or a favorite credenza from your aunts? Future nostalgia is taking an item with some sentimental value to you and restoring the piece to fit the style of your home. This is so special as you can keep the memories of the article but give it new life that you will love to show off! We used pieces of this style in Unsellable houses S3 E6 where we did the cottage core style.

For your home: If you want to add this design trend to your home but need help figuring out how to start, I highly suggest using little knick-knacks on your shelves as décor pieces. You can even paint or plaster them to add a modern element.

Wallpaper-

Yes! We LOVE wallpaper, and I am so happy that it is not going anywhere! Honestly, I don’t think I have done a project in the year without wallpaper, and all of the projects I have in the works now have wallpaper included too! One of the changes between 2022 and 2023 for wallpaper is just how bold we are going with the patterns now. Think less of little flowers and more of 70’s bold designs. We used this design element in our house for Rock the Block in many places, but I think one of my favorites has to be in the entryway and bathroom.

For your home: Do you have a space that feels a little boring, like a laundry room or bathroom? Add some wallpaper for a fresh new feel to a space that can sometimes be neglected in the design area.

Color Cabinets-

Away are the days of the all-white kitchen! Okay, maybe only sometimes, but there are many more fun options! Painting your cabinets can be a really inexpensive way to give your entire kitchen new life, plus it is also easy to add a pop of color to a sometimes sterile feeling space. One of my favorite projects with colored cabinets was Unsellable Houses S3 E9. We put in missed-matched cabinets and repainted them with Sherwin Williams Aleutian SW 6241 to give the entire space new life and functionality.

For your home: So, you have decided to paint your cabinets but need help figuring out where to start? Greens and blues are often considered the “neutrals of colors” and can feel like a safe start to adding color to the home. I have also noticed that adding darker tones to the cabinets can give a little more luxurious feel, while lighter and brighter colors add more energy and light to a space.
