Make the Summer Garland From Rock the Block

Rock the Block might have wrapped up a while ago, but we are still getting questions about how to recreate the garland that we used on the dining room table!

Here is how you can easily make your own! This garland is sure to impress guests for summer dinner parties, or just as a beautiful statement piece for you to enjoy. Plus, it smells amazing with fresh eucalyptus and lemons! Yummm.

I promise that by the time we are done making this garland, no one will be able to tell that it’s not real!

The Garland Base

When I look for a garland, I look for three things, the size, the shape of the greenery, and the length. I am not too concerned about how full the garland starts, because I am going to be adding fresh greenery to it, and adding the real stuff makes a huge difference!

If you are looking for a garland to try click here for one I found on Amazon.

Add Some Fresh Greenery

Next, we are going to go to the store to get some fresh greenery! I like to head to a local flower stand at our town’s Farmer’s Market to ask them to make me a custom bouquet of just greenery. They usually give me a beautiful mix of different varieties.

If you don’t have access to a local flower stand or farmer’s market, I also really like the selection of fresh greenery at Trader Joe’s or one of the local grocery stores.

The trick is to get a variety of shapes, and sizes. My personal favorite is to use the baby blue eucalyptus, but get whatever kind you like! Just make sure that you got enough to fill in the whole garland. I usually just get one or two bouquets, but if you are buying packs I suggest getting one pack per 2 feet of garland.

Time for Accents

For the Rock the Block garland we used lemons, but when I stage homes I have also used oranges and it turns out just as well, but it is up to you on what you want to use!

Another tip here is to use plastic lemons or oranges if you are trying to make the garland last for a long time, but I have found that using fresh does give it a different texture and makes it feel fresher, but it is up to you!

How to Assemble the Garland

  1. Layout your fake greenery.

  2. Cut and add in your real greenery, make sure that you do not place everything in the same direction, or cut it at the same length. We are trying to make this look as natural as possible so layering and staggering the greenery in and out of the garland usually looks best.

  3. Add the lemons or oranges.

That’s it! It is as easy as those 3 steps! If you have the materials putting the whole thing together takes under 10 minutes and will have your guests thinking that you spent all day doing it!
