6 Updates Your Home Needs Every 10 Years

If you’re nearing the 10 year mark on your home, it’s likely that you’re starting to see a little wear & tear in a couple key areas. Fixing & updating these areas before they break or need complete replacement can easily save you money in the long run….especially once you’re gearing up to sell. Check out these 6 items we recommend updating in your home if your home is approaching that 10 year mark:

New carpet: Most carpets have a life-expectancy of around 10 years. But having pets & numerous people living in the home can easily diminish how long your carpet lasts. If your carpet is past the point of getting stains & odors out after a solid cleaning it may be time to consider laying new carpet in those rooms. New carpet is also a huge selling point for potential home buyers.

Replace hot water tank: It’s so easy to neglect a water heater, but if it leaks or fails could end up costing you the big bucks. Pro tip: If the tank is 10 years past its manufacturing date…it’s probably time to look into a replacement.New dishwasher: A dishwasher has about the same life expectancy as your water heater. Replacing your dishwasher before it stops running may save you time & money by putting in a newer and more energy efficient option. You’ll know it’s time when you see cracks on the walls & your dishes are no longer getting as clean as they should be.Replace garbage disposal: Garbage disposal blades dull out every 8-10 years, be sure to replace your blades before they break and completely destroy your disposal.

Repaint inside & outside: Depending on where you live you may have to repaint sooner than 10 years. Most people will update the paint in main living spaces every 3-5 years but think about all the other places that don’t often see new color. Those are places that could really use some TLC.Recaulk bathrooms showers & sinks: Re-caulking can instantly turn a dirty bathroom into a clean fresh bathroom! Recaulking the bathtub, shower, and sinks is easy to do yourself and makes the most important spaces look new again.

Happy updating!
