Spring is in full swing, and Easter is right around the corner. It’s the perfect time to bring some of that springtime joy and cheer into your home with a beautiful spring/Easter garland. With just a few simple steps, you can create a stunning decoration that will brighten any room.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A fake garland
- Fresh greenery (try your local farmer’s market if they have opened or a grocery store)
- Easter decorations (e.g., eggs, bunnies, flowers)
- Ribbon or string
Start by selecting a fake garland that fits your desired length and shape. Look for one that is flexible and easy to work with. Don’t worry too much if it’s not full enough; we will add fresh greenery later. If you need to purchase a garland, you can find one online or at your local craft store. I like the garlands with multiple shades of green and differing textures to add more dimension to the garland.
Next, head to your local farmer’s market or grocery store to pick up some fresh greenery. Farmer’s markets have yet to open here. Still, I can find exactly what I want at Trader Joe’s or our local Kroger. When selecting the greenery, try to choose a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures to add depth and interest to your garland. Some great options include eucalyptus, ferns, ivy, and sprigs of flowers like lilacs or daffodils. Bonus points if you add flowers incorporating the colors of the rest of your home décor. If you want to make your garland a little more Easter festive, I would consider adding seasonal decorations like Easter eggs or moss-covered bunnies.
Once you have your materials, it’s time to assemble your garland. Lay out your fake garland on a flat surface, then start cutting and adding in your fresh greenery, layering and staggering it in and out of the garland to make it look natural.
Incorporating different textures is a great way to add some extra interest to your garland. For example, add some fluffy white feathers or pastel baby breath. Just make sure that your additions complement your garland’s overall color scheme and style.
Finally, tie a ribbon or string around each end of your garland, and hang it up wherever you like. You can drape it across a mantel, hang it from a railing, or use it as a table runner for your Easter brunch. Your DIY spring/Easter garland will impress your guests and add a festive touch to your home.
