Leslie’s Not-So-Expert Guide to Wellness and Green Living

I think we can all agree that taking care of your home, self, and environment is super important, especially when you are a parent. When you and your home are chaotic, it can easily feel like other things in your life are as well. I try to instill in my boys that having a happy life is more than just an action— but it’s little choices every day. I am by no means an expert, but here are a few things I do to take care of myself and my home, and some ways I try to live green.

Drink a gallon of water a day… or try to

I hear it all the time, ‘Drink water. You will feel so much better if you just drink some water.’ Sometimes drinking water is hard! However, recently I have been making it a priority to drink a gallon every day. I have a huge water bottle that I carry around that has “time to drink” markers on the bottle to help me keep track, and I have noticed that this has given me so much motivation to just keep going.

So often the easiest thing for me to do is just grab another cup of coffee. And don’t get me wrong—I LOVE coffee and drink it more than I should probably admit (let’s be honest, my love languages are coffee, and chips and salsa), but now rather than filling my cup for a third, or fourth time, I am trying to chug water first.

Since making drinking water a priority, I have noticed my skin has been feeling brighter and is glowing! Who doesn’t want that?! I have also noticed my headaches have lessened and shockingly, I think I have more energy now! You can check out a similar water bottle to the one  I use here.

Find a hobby that makes you happy

Many people know Lyndsay loves plants, but I don’t think many people know that I love to garden, too! I start my garden each spring and try to keep it alive as long as I can into fall. I love that my garden is my time. With how busy and crazy Lynds and I can be, often we are spent filming for 10+ hours, running a brokerage, visiting clients who are not featured on the show, meeting with agents, running a store, or being moms and wives.

My garden is the place I go to unwind. A few years ago, my kids and husband made me these beautiful, raised flower beds out of cedar, and ever since then, I love to escape here to tend my little “plant babies.” It is my time away from my phone and the chaos of everyday life. I try to plant things my kids can just grab off the vine and snack on when they are hanging out outside. Snow peas, cucumbers, spinach, and tomatoes are some of my favorites.

Create a space that is truly yours

On “Unsellables”, we are constantly telling people that they need to remove their family photos, or to paint the walls a neutral color to get a higher price. But when you are living in your home, it is important to have a space that is uniquely yours!

My style falls under industrial, but I love to add in soft textures and pops of color to soften the space, and you bet I have photos of my kids on almost every wall!

I also notice when I have a candle lit and create a signature scent for my home, I feel more relaxed. My favorites right now are “Shiplap” and “Volcano”, but I do tend to change them out for different seasons.

Green living in the home

Being from the PNW, I think it is instilled in us to love where we are from, and we try to live as green as possible. I want to do my part in taking care of the environment so my kids and their kids can enjoy this beautiful world.

In my home, we have switched all of our regular bulbs to LED, we wash our clothes in cool water, and we try to compost what we can. The other thing I was adamant about when building our home was having it run on propane. Propane is clean, environmentally friendly, and by having our appliances run on it we are decreasing our carbon footprint.

I love propane so much, Lamb and Co have teamed up with the Propane Council for their summer contest. To enter, visit https://m.lndg.page/qXqm7H and post a photo or video showing how propane brings you and your family together for a chance to win fun prizes like an outdoor fire pit, a signed copy of “Cozy White Cottage” by Liz Marie Galvan, a Weber Grill or an outdoor propane pizza oven! Then, on your social media page, post the same picture and use the hashtag #TogetherWithPropane. Don’t forget to tag the @propane_council and @Lambandcompany so we can see your story!

I would love to know how propane brings your family together, and what you do to live a healthy lifestyle! Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook for all of the newest tips and tricks!
