Industrial Moody Lake House Update

I know this blog has been anxiously awaited by a lot of you, so let’s get right to it! This home was incredibly fun to have as our season finale. Believe it or not, it was the last home we transformed so we knew we wanted to go all out and do something a little bit more daring than the rest.

For this home,  I was inspired by the tall floor to ceiling windows. I fell in love with them at my first walkthrough. They reminded me of the windows you would have if you were living in downtown Seattle overlooking the city.  With the abundance of natural light, it really was a perfect match to bringing the city to the suburbs—which was the goal with this design.

We had a lot of room to work with a dining decor here, so we opted for a DIY light fixture very similar to the one in Episode 4: Moving Sale Makeover. We paired wooden beam used in the fixture with a wooden table with industrial legs to really bring the entire look together.

Our biggest hold up at the house was the snow, just like in Episode 10: Rustic Comfort. The renovations took longer because deliveries were delayed which in turn delayed our timeline for a lot key renovations. However, we made it work and the kitchen turned out exactly as planned!

What was challenging about this family room was finding a solution for the mantle. The brick was very boring and by building a custom mantle onto it really made a huge difference.

Last, but not least, our DIY Ombre wall. In this episode when Leslie says she has no confidence we are going to be able to make this wall work—she wasn’t kidding. This was a challenging DIY but wow what a stunning accent wall! One of my favorite memories from filming was our little paint fight while we were painting in this room. All I can say is, sometimes when you’ve been filming long, seemingly endless days…you just need to spice things up a bit. And you know what, that’s what I’m here for!

P.S. We will be blogging a how-to on the Ombre Wall next week. Stay tuned!
