Unsellable Houses

Timeless Elegance

Mary and her husband Steve are looking to see their home to live out their dream of retiring, moving into their RV, and building their dream home. But first, they need to sell their current home, a 1965 rambler, before packing up and heading out!

Location and Inspiration:

This week’s home was in Everett but was closer to the business side, with many large warehouses, offices, and Boeing. The buyer who we were thinking of was a second-time home buyer. Now, you have probably heard us talk about first-time home buyers. They are usually up for just about anything and are typically very trendy. A second-time home buyer is still very stylish, but they are also looking for a home that will last them longer. The second time home is usually the home they bring their kids home to and have friends and family over, so they typically look for something a little more elegant and timeless. Because of this, I went with the style of Regal Elegance. It was the perfect combination of trend and elegance.

Key Updates:

Kitchen-

Here is another time that most of the house was utterly functional but somewhat outdated. Because there was so much in the home that needed to be freshened up, we really needed to save money in other areas. One of the ways that we accomplished this is by pulling out the old cabinets and putting in miss-match cabinets that we then painted. The color we went with this week was Sherwin Williams Aleutian SW 6241, a beautiful calm tone with gray and tan undertones. We loved the color so much that we decided to use it as an accent color in one of the bedrooms and the back patio. For the backsplash in the kitchen, we went with beautiful intricate marble and brass that brought the look of regal elegance into the space.

Bathroom-

The house only had two bathrooms, and when we first got there, one of them didn’t have a sink yet! So, we knew we needed to use our resources to make these bathrooms great! For the first one, the small powder room off the dining area, we added a sink and fixed any repairs needed. After that, we turned our attention to the larger hall bath. The hall bath needed to be unique as it would be the bathroom that everyone in the home would use to get ready in the mornings and the bathroom most guests would use. We removed the old vanity, replaced it with a new one, but in a luxury tile surround bath, and finished the room with a beautiful blue penny tile that was complemented by new hardware throughout.

Updated-

Overall, one of the biggest things we needed to do with this home was updated it! We put on a fresh coat of paint in all of the rooms and on the doors. Doing a beautiful white helped the rooms feel more prominent, and the ceilings feel taller. Replacing the hardware and the lighting in a home is also one of our tricks to make every home feel fresh! If you have more of a limited budget for a home, we tell everyone that paint, floors, hardware, and lighting are the best ways to get the most significant return on investment.
