Spring into Spring

Yes, I know it is only February, but this little bout of sunshine that we have had (like three days, but still) has put me fully into the spring spirit, and that means that I am in the mood to get all of my winter stuff out and start the transition to Spring and Summer!

Spring Cleaning

I know that everyone has heard of spring cleaning, but this is just the start for me! When I think of spring cleaning, I think of a full-on garage emptying, get-everything-to-the-Goodwill kind of spring cleaning, but this is just a toned-down version of that.

I start by putting all of the remaining winter decor into storage for next year! While the counters and surfaces are clear of decorations, it’s time to deep condition, sanitize and polish with my favorite home cleaners! Just the feeling of a clean home also does wonders to put me into a spring-ready mood!

Greenery

Next, it is time for all of the greenery! I love the fresh blooms of Spring, but unfortunately for me, my garden will take a few more months to bloom. However, I combat this by supplementing some faux plants with my live ones! This is a really sneaky trick that works wonders! I often get a lot of compliments about how my plant babies look so amazing and don’t get me wrong, I take very good care of my plants, but my secret is that only half of them are real! The rest I trade in and out for the seasons, and nobody can tell!

Textures

While I do love the heavy knits, flannels, and furs of winter, during the Spring and Summer, I take this time to transition out my heavy blankets for lighter materials and have a brighter color palette. I have found that switching out the blankets removes the heaviness that comes with the bulky material and lends itself to the airy and open feeling that I try to give in my home for Spring.

This is also a great time to talk about the color of items you have out. I, personally, try to put away anything too deep and dark. I have found that switching over to sage greens, neutral beiges, and crisp whites is a great way to emphasize the new textures, just something to keep in mind when picking out your next throw blankets!

Smell

Now, this one might sound crazy, but I have found that so much of the way my home feels directly correlates to how my home smells! I love the warm, spicy smells for my home during fall and winter, but when I am ready to transition to Spring, I switch over all of my candles and diffusers to a lighter smell like lemon, lavender, eucalyptus, and mint. I am a firm believer that your smell and memories have a direct correlation, and I can’t help a bit to get into the sprint spirit when I start smelling these items all around.
