Tips for the 4th of July & Summer Backyard Entertaining

The Fourth of July is almost here!

In the Pacific Northwest, the heat is out and the fun is ready to begin! Here we have gathered up some of our favorite tips to celebrate the holiday, as well as tips for entertaining all summer! We have always enjoyed this time of year since the days are longer, the weather is nicer, and we get to spend more time with our kids since they are off for summer break. Our house has a great barbeque set up and propane fire pit – which makes entertaining during the summer a breeze!

Kid’s Favorite Fruit Skewers

Skewers are one of my favorite recipes because they are so simple and taste great on a hot summer day. This is a great recipe as well for any kids that want to help prep in the kitchen. Gather up some assorted fruits and berries (our kid’s favorites are watermelon, strawberries, grapes, kiwi, and blueberries) and cut them into small pieces with either a regular knife or into shapes with these fun shape cutters. Then place on skewers and into the fridge so everything is nice and cool when they are ready to be served.

Sangria Recipe

Ingredients:

Combine fruit and wine into a picture and let chill in the fridge for a minimum of 1 hour. Add Sprite to taste just before serving. Served in a pretty wine glass, this might just be the most aesthetically pleasing (and delicious) drink!

Game Time!

Setting up some fun games during the day can keep the kiddos entertained until it is time for the big show at the end of the day. Our kids have always loved slip and slides, which are easy to set up. Gather up a big tarp, some soap, a hose, and you’re ready to go! Other simple games we like to set up for the kids are water balloons for a balloon fight, chalk for an art contest, or a bucket at shovel for a beach day. Gathering up all the supplies for a full day of fun is easy in one of our Hinza Totes

Night Activities

Besides watching a spectacular fireworks show, enjoying some hot dogs and s’mores over a nice fire is our favorite summer activity. We love to create a fun platter of all the goodies we’ll need so we can cozy up by the fire and enjoy some good company without distractions. To make s’mores even easier, we like to set up all the materials beforehand, so everything is handy when the marshmallows are ready to go! Using this bakeware dish is perfect! Pair this with a propane fire pit and you have a simple and easy way to enjoy the cool nights! Not only is propane clean energy and better for the environment, but it is reliable and versatile. It can be used for heaters to dryers, generators to stoves and a lot of things in between! As someone who lives in a propane house, I can say it is something that helps me in the day to day, but also to bring my family together – usually around our firepit and grill in the backyard.
